Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors

What is Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors (AP/OD)?
The first evidence based bilingual parent curriculum created by Latino parents with the tools to build parent leadership skills, promote family well-being, and help parents prepare children towards school readiness. The ten interactive AP/OD sessions assist parents in becoming strong and powerful advocates in the lives of their children and to preserve family culture. Parents are taught that they are their child’s first teacher and their home the child’s first school.
In April 2019, the first cohort of 11 parents completed and graduated from the 3rd Edition Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors Program. All sessions are face to face; however, the UTRGV EHS program is currently working towards offering the virtual sessions for parents.
Parent Highlights
“Abriendo Puertas me cambio la vida y la forma de pensar para el futuro de mis hijos y involucrarme más en las escuelas.” Stepahanie S., Parent Graduate

“Abriendo Puertas has helped me in a lot of ways. It has taught me that I am my child’s first teacher. I would recommend Abriendo Puertas to other moms and say that the classes help you see your child’s future differently.” Mariela T., Parent Graduate
